Buzzing with electromagnetic waves and designed as flawlessly as a lunar module, Miles Scharff’s Even if something did you would never really know, 2025, featured on ArtForum’s Best Shows of 2025, was the standout work of LUmkA’s summer group show “The Theater.” Hidden like a ham radio in a homely tech geek’s basement, the human-sized tower trembled and quivered with high frequencies, amplifying what its fabric antennae caught through a system of integrated speakers. Whether the signals were arcane messages from other realms or simply bits of static was for the viewer to decide, and necessitated standing around the structure long enough to notice the slightest changes of pitch or vibration.
