March 16, 2024: Camila Agosto's "Where darkness swallows the sky" for strings and electronics premiered at Columbia Composers concert.
Camila Agosto's electroacoustic piece "Where darkness swallows the sky" from The Memory of Water, Vol. II, for viola (Martine Kinsella Thomas), cello (Thea Mesirow) electronics and live processing was premiered at the Columbia Composers Concert on March 16, 2024.
From the composer: Within The Memory of Water, I delve into questions of what is remembered and forgotten and the impact and change when dealing with loss and grief. The work centers around my engagement of texts created by Martine Thomas and the soundscapes we collectively shape through her original poetry, our improvisation, my live composition, custom instrument design and construction, field recordings, and live electronics. The project contains life cycles that start from the ocean and return to it, intertwining ecological concerns and personal narratives. Where darkness swallows the sky is a continuation of this project and the opening movement from our next installment of The Memory of Water, Vol. II, during which I am working alongside Martine Kinsella Thomas (viola) and Thea Mesirow (cello) in a new environment surrounded by murmurs of souls, exploring the vulnerability required in surrendering your memory amidst the distortion of time.
