sangheeut and lower_cavity are proud to present Infinite Energy Hack, an off-site collaboration by sculptor Eugene Jung and 29 Speedway founder Ben Shirken. At the project’s center is the sustainability-driven EcoTech startup Infinite Energy Solutions (IES), founded by Jung and Shirken as a speculative container for their inquiry into emergent relationships between humanity, technology, and the environment. Headquartered in a reclaimed industrial site in Harlem’s Factory District and Innovation Triangle, IES is committed not only to researching actionable solutions for the production of limitless energy, but to actively embedding them within real-world operations.
“At IES, our goal is to understand the true nature of energy. We are building maximally truth-seeking conversion systems to accelerate discovery into transformation. The universe is mostly energy. We consider that a hint: understand the loop; then close it.” October 16 - November 15Thursday - Sunday 1pm - 7pm
Eugene Jung & Ben Shirken mine the ambiguous zone between hidden real-world systems and their collapse, constructing environments and installations that expose the networks quietly reprogramming contemporary life. Jung’s practice models scenarios of global catastrophe through the construction of speculative, post-apocalyptic landscapes, employing semi-fictive materials to construct alternative realities that expose how urban development, capital flow, and technology operate without visible traces. In parallel, Shirken fuses sound, sculpture, and spatial design to interrogate how tools of communication, analysis, and production continually rewire our relationship to the present. His practice speculates on the unforeseen, emergent effects arising from the entanglement of digital networks and automated systems.
