Merry Sun

Merry Sun

Merry is a visual artist whose range dwells between industrial and installation sculpture, sound art, and film photography. Her work is often largely informed by her studies in philosophy. As a materialist, Merry views such physical artifacts as substrates for memory to be interwoven within. In much of her practice, she strives to imbed memory implicitly into her work through cues given explicitly by material triggers. Merry utilizes sound as metaphysical scaffolding in larger installations to bridge notions of space and time between visual elements. In doing so, she also draws from her background in classical piano and music theory.

Merry received her BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in sculpture and a second major in philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis. She is a current MFA candidate at Columbia University’s program in Sound Art.
