Keith Moore

Keith Moore uses the fields of acoustics and psychoacoustics to compose expressive and conceptually rich works that compel listeners to consider the beauty and breadth of perception itself. 

His compositions have been commissioned for organizations such as Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt), musikFabrik WDR (Cologne), Ensemble de l’itinéraire (Paris), the Athens Biennale (Greece), ISCM (Switzerland), Schlagquartett Köln (Germany), the PRISM Quartet (NYC) and Talujon Percussion (NYC). His music has been championed by Ensemble 21 (NYC), S.E.M. Ensemble (NYC), CRASH ENSEMBLE (Ireland), the Wet Ink Ensemble (NYC), Timetable Percussion (NYC), Tomas Bächli (Berlin), Karen Bentley Pollick (CO), Kevin Boyer (London), Maja Cerar (NYC), Eliot Gattegno (Sichuan), Mieko Kanno (Glasgow), Margaret Lancaster (NYC), Geoff Landman (NYC), Anton Lukoszevieze (UK), Timothy Ruedeman (NYC), Juliana Snapper (LA), Taimur Sullivan (NYC) and Kelland Thomas (Tucson).

Moore was a fellow of the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival (USA), Fondation Royaumont (Asnières-sur-Oise, France) and the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation (Athens, Greece). He was a President’s Fellow at Columbia University (NYC) and an Artist-In-Residence at ZKM | Center for Art and Media (Karlsruhe). Currently he is completing a multi-composition cycle for members of the Ensemble Modern and the International Ensemble Modern Academy commissioned by ZKM and the Jerome Composers Commissioning Program at the American Composers Forum; further distinctions include the Martirano Prize and the ASCAP Raymond Hubbell Award.

Keith Moore completed his D.M.A. at Columbia University studying with Fred Lerdahl, Tristan Murail and George Lewis. His principal teachers also include Sir Harrison Birtwistle (M.M., King’s College London); Alvin Lucier, Anthony Braxton and Neely Bruce (M.A., Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT.); and Herbert Brün and Salvatore Martirano (B.M., University of Illinois). He has had master classes with David Tudor, Joan Tower, James Tenney, Gerhard Stäbler, Roger Reynolds, Pauline Oliveros, Donald Martino, Klaus Huber and Brian Ferneyhough. 

In addition to creating original compositions Keith Moore also pursues his research through academic and popular writing, performance, curating and teaching.
